Taylor celebrates 30 years of commitment and dedication

Sangamon Schools Credit Union (SSCU) was chartered on February 18, 1938 by educators to serve educators. In July 1978, the decision was made to hire the credit union’s first full-time employee, Cheri Taylor.

When Cheri began her tenure with the credit union, it had 1,000 members and $660,000 in assets. Throughout her career she has witnessed and been an active participant in the growth and maturity of SSCU. Today, the credit union offers a complete selection of products and services, has three full-service offices, and two ATMs. The credit union continues to grow, currently serving over 6,200 members with assets totaling over $34 million.

Her commitment, determination, and leadership have helped to make the credit union a household name in the education community. She has demonstrated support to the school districts and their superintendents, University of Illinois Springfield, Land of Lincoln Community College, Horace Mann, and the families of all members in numerous ways.

The endless commitment and dedication that Cheri has exhibited throughout her career are evident in all that she has helped the credit union accomplish. During her tenure as executive vice president, Cheri has been instrumental in the implementation of all products and services offered by the credit union, the development of a Pool Employee Program for retired educators to work at the credit union, and the creation of the Ambassador Program. She has also orchestrated the overall renovation of the central and west offices, and the opening of all three full-service offices. Today, Cheri remains a vibrant part of SSCU. As executive vice president, she directs Human Resources, Marketing, and Planning.

Her enthusiasm and love for the credit union industry is clear. Cheri has not only been instrumental in the success of SSCU, she has also been an active participant in the credit union movement. She served as chairwoman of the Governor’s Board of Credit Union Advisors from 1995-1996, and as a board member for 10 years. Previously she served in a number of officer positions on the board of the Sangamon Valley Chapter of Credit Unions, including chairwoman, vice chairwoman, treasurer, secretary, and legislative forum representative. She has been a legislative liaison at SSCU for 25 years. Cheri also attained the honor of being named Business Associate of the Year for 1990-1991 from the Lincoln Land Chapter of American Business Women’s Association.

Cheri Taylor has proven that building relationships is the cornerstone of personal and professional success. She has aspired to serve the financial needs of educators and their families with the highest standards throughout her tenure. This is a tribute for 30 years of commitment and dedication to a true leader who has made a great impact in the lives of many people.
