CU radio show looking for expansion in Illinois

If you advertise on radio, we need your help!

Illinois credit unions can play a valuable role in getting the new Home & Family Finance Radio talk show aired on local radio stations. This personal finance show, which airs Sundays at 3:00 p.m. Eastern, is a weekly one-hour program that offers helpful information and advice on consumer finance issues.

Past show topics have included: Credit Unions: Right for You, Debt Consolidation, Life Skills 101, Tips for the College Bound, Combating Fraud and ID Theft, What to Do If You Find Errors in Your Credit Report, Using IRAs & Other Deferred Accounts Effectively Before Age 59 1/2, Back to School Savings Tips, Credit Counseling, and New Security Threats to Your Personal and Financial Information. There has also been many great speakers on these topics from a variety of credit union, financial services, and governmental organizations. Each week, host Paul Berry talks to money experts from around the nation with an emphasis on how the subject matter applies to the average consumer.

Broadcast on the Radio America Network, Home & Family Finance Radio is currently only on four stations in Illinois and 32 stations nationwide. The show is available on a "barter" basis, where the station receives the show at no cost, but can sell built-in airtime for local advertising. Credit unions don't have to buy time, but may if they so desire. In addition, credit unions can link to the show from their website; a podcast will soon be available.

If you can provide information on your contacts at local radio stations, ICUL and CUNA will do the legwork to introduce station management to the program. Expanding the show's reach is a great advocacy opportunity that will help credit unions bring improved financial literacy to their communities.

Illinois has more than 60 news/talk stations, typically on the AM band. So, if your credit union already has a relationship with this type of radio station that may be interested in becoming an outlet for Home & Family Finance Radio, please notify William Wille, ICUL Public Relations Coordinator, at (630) 983-3216.

Additional information is available.

If you are not already familiar with the program, or would like to listen to one of the previously aired shows, please go to CUNA Web site.
