In its continuing effort to increase electronic communication of important information across all of its functional areas, the Illinois Credit Union League (ICUL) will soon begin distributing news from the Office of General Counsel (OGC) on an as-needed basis via e-mail.
News from OGC may include Legal and Technical (L&T) Bulletins, as well as compliance, regulatory, legislative and transactional matters of critical importance to the credit union movement. This new communications vehicle will also serve as an extension of the on-going analysis of laws, regulations and court decisions affecting credit union operations that OGC provides to League members.
Please note that all e-mail addresses collected by the League will be available to a limited number of League staff. E-mails are personalized, do not contain e-mail addresses of other recipients, and will be used only for the purpose for which they were collected. In addition, the League will continue to use its outgoing fax distribution system. Credit unions that do not have e-mail or a fax machine will continue to receive critical League materials via first class mail.
As you are probably already aware, OGC has an extensive library of compliance information on the League’s Web site. This comprehensive online resource features an archive of L&T Bulletins, the League Information Manual, frequently asked questions, comment and opinion letters, commonly used forms, table of reporting deadlines, and credit union retention schedules. Information in this section of the Web site is updated regularly and we invite you to check out the many resources if you have not recently.
In addition to information from OGC, a number of other electronic communications options are available online. Please review each option and feel free to sign up for as many as you like and apply to your operation. On the form, please be sure to also include the names and e-mail addresses for the appropriate staff and board members from your credit union that should receive each communication as appropriate.
All credit unions have been mailed a sign up form to begin receiving information from OGC via e-mail. You may also sign up online via the League’s Web site.

Listserv Communications
A listserv is an interactive online discussion feature in which groups of people with common interests can exchange ideas, ask questions, get answers, and openly discuss topics of interest with members who are signed up on a particular list. To date, ICUL has established three listservs: the Small Credit Union Listserv, reserved for credit unions under $20 million in assets, the Chapter Leaders Listserv for officers or chapter representatives serving one of ICUL’s 26 chapters, and the IT Administrators Listserv for credit union staff members to discuss technology issues.
Other League Information
Educational Materials. Recently, ICUL’s Education Department began distributing its “Learning Opportunities” calendar of events via e-mail on a monthly basis. This vehicle includes information on the QuickBites telephone series, in-person workshops, teleconferences, and major events held throughout the year, including Annual Convention, as well as online certification programs.
