New Americans Loan Program

North Side Community Federal Credit Union recently held a press conference announcing its New Americans Loan Program. In a partnership with Centro Romero and the Organization of the North East (ONE), the New Americans Loan Program provides small loans to legal residents for the cost of applying for citizenship. This initiative will allow North Side to reach out to an underserved market, provide financial literacy training and counseling, and provide affordable credit to future citizens. The project will also serve as a model for other financial institutions that are interested in serving the growing immigrant market. Maria Noriega, first borrower under the New Americans Loan Program, speaks at the press conference, surrounded by Abel Nunez, Centro Romero; State Rep. Harry Osterman; Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias; State Rep. Greg Harris; U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky; and North Side Manager Ed Jacob.

Community Service

During the holiday season, the Will County Chapter of Credit Unions, in conjunction with the Joliet Police Department, held a Christmas party for Guardian Angel Community Services. The agency provides children with services related to domestic violence, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, foster care, and alternative education.
