EFT Pioneer Dies. John W. Adams, former League Director from the Galesburg Chapter and CUNA national director, died on August 26, 2006. Adams served as chairman of the original CUNA funds transfer committee in February 1974 and was a catalyst for action which resulted in allowing credit unions to offer share drafts. His integral knowledge of credit union operations and EFT systems helped him develop materials for a series of highly successful national EFT seminars. Adams organized Butler ECU in Galesburg during 1949 and served as treasurer/manager for more than 40 years. He was a League director for 23 years and served as a CUNA national director from 1969-1985, holding the position of vice-chairman from 1970-1991. Adams was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, who also worked as an employee of Butler CU. Butler CU became Prairieland CU, which merged into Galesburg Midwest CU, now called Midwest Community CU.
