First Quarter 2006

ICUL Statewide Award Timelines. Mark your calendar now to participate in ICUL’s awards programs during 2006: The deadlines are as follows: Spirit of Service Award entries (Volunteer and Employee of the Year) are due to the League office by February 24; entries for the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award Program, Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award and the Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action are all due August 1; and entries for the Illinois Credit Union Hall of Fame are due December 31. Calls for entries and other information for each award competition will be sent a few months prior to their respective deadlines.

Scholarship & Grant Deadline. The first review for 2006 scholarships, community service grants, small credit union development grants, and financial independence & revitalization effort (FIRE) grants will take place following the March 31 application deadline. Go to the League’s Web site, then click on League Services, then on ICU Foundation to access detailed program information and the application forms. The two other review deadlines for 2006 are July 31 and October 31.

Celebration Weeks Announced. National Credit Union Youth Week is set for April 23-29, 2006; go to www.cuna.coop to access promotional materials. Money$mart Week is set for May 1-6, 2006; go to www.chicagofed.org for more information. International Credit Union Week is set for October 23-27, 2006, with Thursday, October 26 positioned as International CU Day. These celebratory times are always held during the third week and third Thursday of October, respectively.

IYIC Donates $15,200. The Illinois Youth Involvement Council (IYIC) raised money during 2005, primarily through candy bar sales, and donated proceeds to CUPAC ($6,350), the ICU Foundation ($6,350), and I-CARE ($2,500).

Milestone Anniversaries. Congratulations to the following credit unions who celebrate milestone service anniversaries during 2006: 25 Years – Baxter CU; 50 Years – BAE CU, Clifford Jacobs ECU, Decatur Earthmover CU, DuPage CU, Harvard Community CU, Little Company of Mary ECU, S&C ECU, Salem School System CU, and Winnetka Municipal ECU; 75 Years – Champaign Postal ECU, Dial CU, and United CU.

New Names. C.T. ECU is now C.T. Community CU, Deere Harvester CU is now DHCU, Kaskaskia Valley CU is now Kaskaskia Valley Community CU, and Wrigley Factory CU is now Wrigley Associates CU.

Grand Openings. The following credit unions recently opened new offices: Bell Financial Community CU in Bourbonnais, Catholic & Community CU in Shiloh, Decatur Earthmover CU in Forsyth, H-F CU in Country Club Hills, and Streator Onized CU in Pontiac.

New CEOs. Welcome to the following new CEOs of Illinois credit unions: Michelle Timpe at Air Line Pilots Association FCU, Kelly Murray at Aurora Burlington CU, Rhonda Schroeder at Blackhawk Area CU, Janet Schuler at Canals & Trails CU, Buddy Hagely at Caseyville Township Community CU, Raeann Love at Commonwealth CU, Sarah Gibbens at D-B CU, Cheryl Bell at Decatur Firemens CU, Lois Markoff at Des Plaines Valley CU, Rick Luy at Freeport City ECU, Jeanne Hiland at NIU EFCU, Debra Rosencrans at Ottawa Highway CU, Christine Biasi at Planites CU, Yvonne Denoyer at Preferred Members CU, and Brenda Coker at Western Illinois CU.

Passings. The credit union movement mourns the loss of Herbert Hagely, Sr. who was treasurer of Caseyville Township Community CU; Lawrence Hagely, who was president of Caseyville Township Community CU; Raymond Woodin who was a long-time board member of Milledgeville Community CU; Larry Ensign who was a board member at Crossroads CU and board chairman at Land of Lincoln CU; and Wilma Tibbits who was a board member at Prairie Trail CU.

Major Vendor Name Change. Effective January 2, 2006, Bankers Systems has taken on the name of its parent company, Wolters Kluwer Financial Services, to bring together all of its solutions and services for banking, securities, and insurance under one unified identity. Wolters Kluwer Financial Services is an organization of more than 1,200 employees.
