National Youth Saving Challenge Results
The 2nd annual National Youth Saving Challenge, sponsored by the Illinois Credit Union League and CUNA, recorded deposits of more than $4.6 million during National Credit Union Youth Week, April 17-23, 2005.

In Illinois, 14 credit unions reported their participation and 12 credit unions reported the results. The deposit goal of the reporting CUs was $28,924 and the actual deposits were $82,896. These deposits were made by 1,136 young people, including 117 new youth members.

Nationwide, 280 credit unions participated with $4,635,874.82 in deposits from 36,387 youth. A total of 4,543 new youth accounts were opened as part of the Saving Challenge.

The 2006 National Youth Saving Challenge is set for the week of April 23-29, 2006. National Credit Union Youth Week also takes place during this timeframe.

Desjardins Awards
Congratulations to the winners of the 2005 Desjardins Youth Financial Education Awards presented by ICUL and Credit Union National Association (CUNA): NuMark CU — first place $80 – $200 million assets category; Community Trust CU — honorable mention, $80 – $200 million assets category, and Alliant CU — first place, $200+ million assets category.

New Names
Credit Union Plus is now known as Community Plus FCU; Cuban American Chamber of Commerce CU is now known as Homeowners Association CU; Deere & Company CU is now known as Deere ECU; and Galesburg Midwest ECU is now known as Midwest Community CU.

Grand Openings
The following credit unions recently opened new offices: Argonne CU — Romeoville, Deere Harvester CU — Moline, Illinois Community CU — Rochelle, Land of Lincoln CU — Mattoon, Oak Trust CU — Sugar Grove and Villa Park, and WECO CU — West Chicago.

New CEOs
Welcome to the following new CEOs of Illinois credit unions: ADM CU — Don Tewell, Champaign County ECU — Brent Rose, First Illinois CU — John Hegg, IAA CU — Sean Wells, Illinois Education Association CU — Marissa Carter, and Vienna Correctional Center CU — Sheila Reichert.

New FSCC Director
John Fiore, CEO of Motorola ECU, was recently elected to the board of directors of Financial Service Centers Cooperative (FSCC).

Passings
The credit union movement mourns the loss of Larry Newton, ICUL Director and Internal Auditor of Archer Heights CU, Ron Schuermann, former CEO of WECO CU, Loretta Graber, former board member and president of Tazewell County Government ECU, Howard “Sam” Boyd, former director of Abingdon Pottery CU, and George Vogel, former chairman of Illinois Power CU.
