Initial details for 2014 Chapter Leaders Conference

The 2014 Chapter Leaders Conference is scheduled for August 20-21 and will be held at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles.  Chapter Leaders will work together to share ideas and experiences.  Chapters are an integral part of the Illinois Credit Union System.  Their purpose is to promote the credit union philosophy, encourage networking among credit union professionals and volunteers, meet regularly to exchange ideas, and provide training opportunities along with various League and legislative updates. This conference is the perfect opportunity to gather ideas on how to revitalize and enhance your team’s effectiveness.  For now, mark the dates in your calendar and watch for more details in the coming months.
We look forward to seeing you in August!

Central Illinois credit unions provide 8th graders with a (financial) dose of reality
Credit Union 1 and Community Plus Federal Credit Union, members of the John L Kelly Chapter of Credit Unions, recently joined forces with Eater Jr. High School to teach students how to be successful in the real world via participation in Mad City MoneyTM, a two-hour financial reality simulation event.

Mad City MoneyTM  is a program by the Jump$tart Coalition Clearinghouse that gives youth a taste of the real world complete with occupation, salary, spouse, student loan debt, credit card debt, and medical insurance payments. Mad City Money allows participants to make mistakes and suffer the consequences of their decisions in a realistic, but safe, environment.

A total of 128 eighth graders participated.  During the simulation, students were assigned a profession and learned how to manage their finances via visiting various booths from purchasing a home and car; and budgeting simple daily errands such groceries, clothing and daycare; as well as experiencing unexpected surprises along the way from the “Fickle Finger of Fate”.

Volunteers from the two credit unions in Rantoul participated along with individuals from several local community organizations who donated their time, including: Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce, Village of Rantoul, Rantoul Township High School Future Business Leaders of America, Ana Bell Huling Day Care, First Bank and Trust of Rantoul, and Lincoln’s Challenge Academy.

As one of 24 chapters of the Illinois Credit Union League (ICUL), the John L. Kelly Chapter of Credit Unions serves credit unions and credit union officials in Champaign and Piatt counties.  There are 11 credit unions in the chapter that serve more than 149,000 members and hold nearly $1.1 billion in assets.

Chapter Leaders Listserv
Did you know that a listserv is available as a tool in which chapter leaders from around the state can effectively communicate?  In case you were not already familiar, a listserv is an interactive online discussion feature in which groups of people with common interests can exchange ideas via email.  An e-mail list (or Listserv) is a fast, convenient way to share information.  For more information and/or to sign up for the listserv for Chapter Leaders,
please click here.

CHAPTERS: WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Please know you are welcome to share pictures and details about your chapter's activities.  As part of our Indepth, we would like to include that information here on this page.  Please forward all submissions to William Wille, ICUL PR Coordinator.
