League announces theme, speaker highlights for 2013 Convention. The League has announced that Mark Sievewright will provide keynote remarks at the 83rd Annual Convention. The theme will be: "Passport to Success!" Next year's Convention, to be held held April 18-20, 2013, will return for the second year to the Schaumburg Renaissance Convention Center. Full story.
Small CU workshops opportunity to collaborate, innovate, communicate. As a follow up to successful "Lunch and Learn" workshops held earlier this year, three small asset size (SAS) workshops have been scheduled for credit unions under $25 million in assets. These three-hour sessions will provide a unique opportunity to gain industry knowledge and put it to work in your credit union, including information on non-interest income, regulatory concerns, ACH compliance, marketing and more. Statewide winners announced; two place in nationals. In announcing the recipients of its annual statewide award competitions, the League is also pleased to recognize two credit unions that placed in the national contests. Full story.
Credit unions continue to outpace banks in Financial Trust Index. As the economy continued to be a top issue for voters in the final days of the presidential campaign, trust in credit unions remained high at 61 percent among Americans, according to the latest Chicago Booth/Kellogg School Financial Trust Index. The Index, released October 30, also found that 23 percent of Americans say they trust the country’s financial system. The Index has consistently reported notably more trust in credit unions than local and national banks quarter over quarter since it began in December 2008. This was the 16th quarterly update. CUAid Activated for Hurricane Sandy Relief. The National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) has activated the online disaster relief system CUAid.coop to raise money for credit union people along the East Coast affected by Hurricane Sandy. To date, more than $82,000 has been raised through CUAid.coop for Hurricane Sandy relief. Donations can now be made at www.cuaid.coop. Full Story.
One year after "Bank Transfer Day," Illinois CUs continue to see notable growth. Great In the year since consumers were urged to move their money from big banks to credit unions on "Bank Transfer Day" (Nov. 5, 2011), credit unions in Illinois have seen a surge in the number of new people becoming members. In the 12 months ending June 2012, credit unions in the state of Illinois saw 43,622 new members. That is the fastest rate of growth in Illinois since 2009. Full Story.
