Alliant Credit Union Named to Companies That Care 2012 Honor Roll.  Alliant Credit Union was recently named to the 2012 Honor Roll of Center for Companies That Care.   Center for Companies That Care is a national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to ensuring social sustainability by engaging employers in improving the lives of employees, families and communities. Based on Alliant’s strong commitment to developing great leaders and positively impacting the community, Alliant Credit Union was selected as an Honor Roll recipient.  Center for Companies That Care’s Honor Roll is a national list recognizing employers for outstanding workplace practices and active community involvement. The positive attributes of these companies include the "10 Characteristics of Socially Responsible Employers."

Baxter CU's Jeff Johnson earns industry IT Trailblazer of the Year nod.  Jeff Johnson has spent the past 15 years helping his credit union, along with the industry, compete in the fast-changing world of delivery of financial services. His co-workers and peers say he has helped set new standards for bringing together technology and member service. Johnson is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Baxter Credit Union (BCU). Johnson was recently named the 2012 IT Executive of the Year at CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington D.C.. The award recognized Jeff as the driving force behind numerous initiatives at BCU and throughout the industry. Among his most notable achievements is the creation of CUFX, an acronym for Credit Union Financial Standards. It’s an effort that Johnson and his fellow members of the CUNA Technology Council are devoting considerable time and energy to seeing come to fruition. As Johnson describes it, CUFX is a set of industry specifications that will increase the speed of delivery of new business functions, simplify integration and reduce the cost of vendor-provided and credit union-created offerings. CUFX will allow the industry to spend more time focusing on value-added issues rather than back-office integration, and more quickly adopt technologies.

Consumers Cooperative Association awards six $1,500.00 scholarships to local students.  Six, $1500.00 scholarships were recently awarded to local students in the Lake County area by Consumers Cooperative Association (CCA), the sponsor of Consumers Cooperative Credit Union. The high school students received their scholarships at the joint annual meeting of the two organizations in mid-March. Each recipient may use the scholarship at the college or university of her/his choice.  The 2012 scholarship were awarded to students from six Lake County high schools.

Gateway Metro FCU hosts financial education classes for AT&T’s Take Our Children to Work Day. Gateway Metro Federal’s commitment to financial education for today’s youth was evident when employees taught savings and money topics to over 120 children at AT&T’s annual Take Our Children to Work Day. This is the seventh year that Gateway Metro Federal Credit Union participated in the event.  Gateway Metro Federal’s class combined educational and fun activities. Questions got the kids involved and helped them discuss earning money, spending money wisely, and saving. After a short presentation, the kids participated in a trivia game, colored, and did other fun activities.

GCS FCU donates backpacks.  In an on-going effort to support the local community, GCS FCU held a collection for Riverbend Head Start & Family Services.  James Wing, GCS Mortgage Loan Manager, put together a fundraiser to purchase backpacks for Riverbend’s early childhood education program. GCS Federal Credit Union employees and members of Gracepoint Church came together to support this project. Backpacks will be given to children leaving the program to enter school this fall.  The mission of Riverbend Head Start & Family Services is to "Enable children and families to develop positive skills to meet life’s challenges." New CEO.  Welcome to Mary Heberlie who recently became CEO of Menard CU, located at the Menard Correctional Center in Menard, Illinois.

Scott CU pledges $3,000 to Troy Titans football club.  Scott Credit Union recently pledged $3,000 for a three-year sponsorship to support the Troy Titans Football Club in their efforts to purchase new helmets and uniforms because of the growth of the program.  Scott Credit Union has sponsored the local football club since 2009 when it pledged $4,000 to help the Titans install a scoreboard for their home field. The football club is for players who are five through 14 years old and their home field is located at Tri-Township Park in Troy.
