If you have not already, sign up for Convention - Registration closes March 23!
To be held April 26 – 28, 2012, ICUL’s 82nd Annual Convention will tout many changes and highlights, not the least of which is a brand new location– the Renaissance Convention Center in Schaumburg, Illinois.

The theme is "Get in the Game!"

Connie Payton, wife of the late football legend Walter Payton, has been announced as the Keynote speaker and will present "Family Values, Teambuilding, Embracing Life."  Her address will be part the Keynote and Awards Ceremony, which will include the changing of the gavel and is among a jam-packed schedule of 24 educational opportunities that will also consist of a free pre-con workshop and a closing session.  The Disclosures, an acoustic thrift-rock duo from the land of credit unions are also scheduled to perform.

A new registration option is available this year: a special one day rate.  If your credit union has always wanted to bring some extra staff to Convention, now is your chance.  This Friday-only rate for only $115 per attendee includes admission to the keynote session, the morning and afternoon education sessions, access to the exhibit hall and a "tailgate" lunch on Friday.

Many credit unions have already taken advantage of this promotion, including DuPage Credit Union.  "With the Convention at a nearby, less expensive suburban location we're able to send several more team and board members than we have in the past to help expose them to the credit union movement.  It's a great value," said Robert Palumbo, CEO.

Also new this year is the opportunity for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits.  Need CPE credits for your CPA designation? Many of our sessions are now CPE eligible. Contact the league’s education department for additional information.

The 82nd Annual Convention officially kicks off at 4:00 p.m. on April 26th with the exhibit hall grand opening, where more than 80 business partners and other vendors are anticipated to be on display.

Don't miss out!  Please note the registration deadline is March 23.  Full details of the event can be found at and via our new mobile Web site.  Be sure to also check out our photo preview of our new host facility.

Legislative Day, other May Springfield events scheduled, open for registration
It will be a busy time for the League and credit unions in early May.

That's because first, ICUL's annual Legislative Day and Reception will be held on May 9.  This important annual event will be held at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel.

"With all members of the General Assembly up for election in 2012, the time is now for political involvement. This year’s State Legislative Day and Reception will focus on the key role that credit unions can play in the political process. By joining and working together, we can make a difference that matters -- to every credit union member and the entire credit union movement," said Steve Olson, ICUL Executive Vice President, General Counsel and COO.

New for 2012: The meeting format of Legislative Day has changed to begin with registration at 9:30 a.m. and include a luncheon, allowing for a better opportunity for legislative visits.  Please also plan to take advantage of this networking opportunity: The Legislative Reception will be returning to the Governor’s Mansion, which was well-received as our off-site reception in 2010. The Illinois Governor’s Mansion is one of the oldest historic residences in the state. Be sure to come visit and view the mansion while socializing with your legislator during the Legislative Reception.

In addition, please also note about additional events taking place that week.  The 2nd annual Springfield-area CUPAC golf outing will take place on Tuesday, May 8 – one day prior to ICUL’s State Legislative Day. The golf outing will take place at Edgewood Golf Club in Auburn, Illinois (approximately 30 minutes south of Springfield). Separate registration is required using the CUPAC Golf Outing brochure.

Lastly, please mark your calendar for now to stay around on May 10, the day after Legislative Day, for a board college being hosted by the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS).  A simliar event was held as part of its annual conference held in Chicago last year and was well attended and received by Illinois credit unions.  While the agenda is still to be finalized, staff from the Division of Financial Institutions and ICUL are tentatively scheduled to be present.

For more information on these events, please see the event brochures and/or call ICUL's Springfield office at (217) 744-1800.
