Consumers Cooperative CU invites public to free home buying seminar. Buying a home is a very important step in life - a step many are eager to take, but are often reluctant to do. After all, buying a home is the biggest decision most people will ever make - and decisions that big come with many, many questions. That's why Consumers Credit Union (CCU) is proud to offer it's FREE workshop "Home Buying Made Easy" on March 20. This no-cost seminar is open to the public, and includes easy-to-understand answers to the challenging questions about financing options, purchasing options and more. Experts will be on-hand to give helpful tips on how to finding just the right home for those attending the workshop - and to answer all your questions. Home Buying Made Easy" is open to the public as well as credit union members and will be held at the Holiday Inn in Gurnee. The seminar is produced in cooperation with Consumers Cooperative Association, the credit union's sponsor.

Illinois Foreclosure Prevention Network Mortage Relief Project. The State of Illinois is sponsoring an event to help homeowners who struggling on their mortgage. The program has three goals – 1. Get consumers to meet with counselors or the lender sooner increasing the chance of success. 2. Provide education about the foreclosure process so homeowners can manage this crisis better. 3. Get homeowners to FREE counselors prior to being charged of $3,000 to $12,000 and the possibility of the "company" disappearing with their money. This is a FREE event and we are NOT asking for financial assistance. We are only asking for assistance letting homeowners know about the event. This event is at Joliet Township High School – West Campus, 401 N Larkin Ave, Joliet IL 60435. This event is sponsored by Governor Pat Quinn’s Office; Illinois Housing Development Authority; Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR); Illinois Department of Employment Security; and Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office and hosted by State Senators Pat McGuire and Jennifer Bartino-Tarrent, State Representatives. SIU CU gives back. SIU Credit Union has continued to show that they are invested in the community and giving back! Every year SIU Credit Union selects two local charities to receive its Jeans Day Donation. Every Friday employees can wear jeans if they donate $2.00 to selected charities of the year. Last year, St. Francis Animal Shelter and the American Cancer Society were chosen to be the recipients of this year’s donations. More than $2,000 was donated.

Scott CU ready to help members as a result of sequestration. Scott Credit Union stands ready to help its members who could be furloughed from their jobs due to the government sequestration that began on March 1. The credit union will offer a Sequestration Loan at 0% APR and no payments for 60 days to any member who is furloughed from their government job due to the sequestration. The sequestration will mean $1.2 trillion of forced budget cuts from government programs over the next decade. The government cuts would mean that many federal workers could face furloughs as early as April 1. Scott Credit Union’s Sequestration Loan program will offer members the opportunity to borrow 100 percent of their most recent monthly net pay up to $5,000 at 0% for 60 days. They will not have to make any payments for the first 60 days and will have one year to repay the loan. The loan rate will be set at 4.75% Annual Percentage Rate after the first 60 days, said Scott President & CEO, Frank Padak.

Land of Lincoln CU names Mattoon branch manager. Land of Lincoln Credit Union (LLCU) has recently hired Heidi Schlabach as Branch Manager in Mattoon. Schlabach comes to LLCU with over 20 years of experience in the financial industry. Schlabach is a long-time resident of Mattoon and a graduate of Mattoon High School. She is married to Ervin Schlabach and has one son, Elijah. She is an active volunteer serving various organizations including: RW Boyle, Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce, Mattoon Thunder Fundraiser Committee and the Mattoon Hit-Men Fundraiser Committee. She has also participated in numerous community events including: the St. Jude 5k run, Zumbafest for SACIS and is an active member of the area YMCA.
