As part of his effort to continually dialogue with credit union officials, ICUL President/CEO Dan Plauda hosts luncheons around the state at the chapter level.  Topics include System updates and activities, as well as legislative and regulatory initiatives and other issues of interest to the attendees.  Shown is a picture from his most recent lunch with the Illinois Quad Cities Chapter.

CUs active with Money Smart Week

Many Illinois credit unions were busy helping to promote financial literacy during this year’s Money Smart Week (MSW) April 21-28, 2012.  The John L. Kelly Chapter of Credit Unions, which consists of 15 credit unions in Champaign and Piatt Counties, hosted the Mad City Money reality fair. At top left, thirty-five students from the Christian Life Church Rantoul United Pentecostal Church youth groups were transported into the future with their friends.  As part of the Rockford Area Chapter of Credit Unions (RACCU) mission of promoting financial literacy within its communities,  the chapter hit a homerun with its Teen Reality Fair. This event was hosted at the Rockford Public Library East Branch.  Denise Leonard, RACCU Education Liaison and Foundation Representative was the facilitator, supported by 13 volunteers from the chapter's credit unions.  For the full story, see the "Events" section of this issue.

GCS awards Nicole R. Thorp Scholarship

Mark Holshouser, GCS FCU President/CEO, recently awarded the Nicole R. Thorp Scholarship to Amanda Cornell of Staunton High School. GCS sought applicants who actively volunteer in the community.  Nicole R. Thorp, who the scholarship is now named after, was a big believer in helping out where needed. Applicants were also required to submit an essay explaining why saving and budgeting are important habits to develop.  GCS tries to guide youth in developing and reaching savings goals and wanted to hear how its teens have succeeded.

CRS roundtables help collectors connect, compete

Collectors roundtable events, hosted for the past 13 years by Creditors Resource Services (CRS), a division of the ICUL Service Corporation, continue to be critical events for the sharing of information and networking.
The most recently held roundtable was at ICUL’s offices in Naperville, which saw 48 individuals representing 31 credit unions in attendance.
