Rock Valley CU rebuilds in Rochelle



After a ground breaking just last October, Rock Valley CU held an official grand opening and ribbon cutting for its new branch in Rochelle during May.  The credit union has been serving the City of Rochelle since 1991 and can now better attend to its members' needs with this new stand alone facility.

Chicago Metro Chapter continues CU Spotlight feature segment



Since March, the Chicago Metro Chapter has been including a "CU Spotlight" as part of the agenda during its chapter meetings.  This came about as a result of their desire to get to know the credit unions in the chapter better.  At the May meeting, Great Lakes CU was highlighted by Christine Dickover, who also serves as chapter chair.

CEO Summit discusses consumer trends, roundtable



John P. Lass, SVP of Strategy & Business Development for CUNA Mutual Group, (at top) was the main speaker at this year's CEO Summit. Lass provided a thought-provoking presentation on “The Battle for the American Consumer." Other highlights included a roundtable facilitated by ICUL President/CEO Dan Plauda (below left) that also included Steve Olson, ICUL EVP, General Counsel and COO; and George Fiegle, LSC EVP.  The event was held June 4-5 at the Hotel Arista in Naperville. More than 30 CEOs from around the state were in attendance.

Illinois System well represented at NCUA "Boot Camp"



The ICU System and Illinois CUs were well represented at NCUA's Boot Camp in June.  Speakers included Sheila O'Leary, Mgr., Creditors Resource Service (CRS), and Jamie Conrad, LSC Sr Strategic Acct. Dir.  Also facilitating a panel discussion were Michael Daugherty, CEO, Community Plus FCU and Cheryl Merkel, CEO, Central Illinois CU. The Boot Camp, held in Collinsville, was a joint effort between the NCUA, and the Illinois and Missouri leagues exclusively for credit unions with assets under $50 million.

FedComp training hosted at ICU System Center



Karen Rys, VP of Operations for FedComp, facilitated a one-day training session on June 27 for small CUs from Chicagoland.  The meeting was regarding FedComp's new platform to assist CUs process the 5300 Report, CDs, and other operational procedures.

Polish Slavic FCU hands out $200K in scholarships



On June 15, the Polish & Slavic FCU held a function to distribute college scholarships to students. More than $200,000 was provided in scholarships at the CU's branches in Illinois, New Jersey and New York. At the Mt. Prospect, IL branch (at left), nearly 20 students received scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000.

Central Illinois Chapter holds "CU Live" event at Chiefs game



The Central IL Chapter recently held a "CU Live" event at a Peoria Chiefs game, a local minor league baseball team.  The suite event occurred on May 22.  Here, the team mascot named Homer is shown with the chapter group.

Illinois Quad Cities puts on Annual Chapter-wide shred event



Earlier this summer, the Quad Cities Chapter hosted its free annual community shred day, supported by all CUs in the chapter.  This year's event beat its previous records, with 4,222 pounds of shred material collected from a record number of 109 vehicles.  The chapter also provided one free canvas shopping bag per car.
