ICUF annual golf outing - Elk Grove
July 31, 2013
Reserve Wednesday, July 31 and plan to attend the Illinois Credit Union Foundation’s golf outing. This annual fundraiser offers the opportunity to play in a scramble or individual play format. Participants are guaranteed a day of fun on the links while raising money for the Foundation.  Everyone who wants to golf at the outing as well as credit unions and vendors who would like to be an event sponsor should contact Melanie Murphy at 800-942-7124.

Annual Statewide Award Competitions
August 2 Deadline for Entries
The official call for entries for the annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award, Louise Herring for Philosophy in Action Member Service Award and the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award competitions has been mailed to all credit unions.  The deadline for all competitions is by 4:30 p.m. on August 2. Entry forms and other information are available via the League’s Web site.  For questions or other assistance, please contact William Wille.

Small Asset Size Credit Union Conference - Naperville
August 6 - 7
Small credit unions:  Mark your calendar now for the Small Asset Size Credit Union Conference.  This highly popular conference for credit unions with $30 million or less in assets will be held at the ICU System Center in Naperville August 6 and 7.  This year’s conference will include: Investing and Lifestyle Lending for small credit unions, as well as the return of the NCUA/DFI Regulatory Panel. You will also be provided with an opportunity to meet and network with Illinois credit unions of similar size.  For all the details, please see the Events section of this issue.

2013 Chapter Leaders - Bloomington
August 21-22
In case you have not already heard, the 2013 Chapter Leaders Conference is scheduled for August 21-22 and will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Bloomington.  This year’s theme is “Get your Chapter Leaders Kicks on Route 66,” hosted by the Kankakee Valley Chapter of Credit Unions.  Please see the Chapters section of this issue for more of the story.

Hike the Hill – Washington, D.C.
October 2 – 3, 2013
Be sure to make your calendar to join the Illinois delegation in the nation’s capitol October 2 - 3 for the League’s annual Hike the Hill event.  At the 2012 event, a delegation of 13 credit union officials from nine credit unions, as well as key League staff met with their Congressmen to discuss vital issues of concern.  The meetings were very positive and we will continue interacting with these legislators via candidate interviews and chapter legislative nights in their respective districts.

International CU Day - October 17, 2013
The World Council of Credit Unions has announced the 2013 International Credit Union (ICU) Day® theme, "Credit Unions Unite for Good: A Better Way," which emphasizes the benefits of cooperation among credit unions worldwide. ICU Day is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October and will take place this year on October 17, 2013. Official ICU Day graphics and posters in English and Spanish are available for download on World Council's website at

ICUF scholarship and grant deadlines
The second review for 2013 scholarships and grants (Community Service, Small Credit Union Development, Marketing and Business Development, and Financial Independence & Revitalization Effort (FIRE)) will take place following the July 31 application deadline.
Remaining grant application review deadlines include October 31. Grant seekers are encouraged to complete and return the application form to the Foundation as early in the year as possible since grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications will be reviewed as long as grant funds are available. March 31 was the main scholarship application deadline. Scholarship seekers are encouraged to complete and return the application form to the Foundation as early in the year as possible since most scholarships are awarded following the March 31 deadline. During the remainder of the year, scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first served basis as long as funds are available.
