Kelly Chapter participates in Black History Month supplement
Recognizing the demographics of America are changing and credit unions need to respond, the John L. Kelly Chapter of Credit Unions participated in the annual Black History month supplement to the Champaign News-Gazette.

The chapter became connected to this opportunity via a colleague of Mike Daugherty, CEO of Community Plus Federal Credit Union, who made a point that the African-American community notices who advertises in the supplement, and more importantly, who does not. The supplement seemed like a natural fit for the credit unions of the chapter, which serve the central Illinois counties of Champaign and Piatt.

"Last year when looking through it, I was struck how only a very few banks advertised in it. The more I thought on it, the more I felt an ad sponsored by the chapter would be a way for even the smaller credit unions without an advertising budget to reach out to the community," said Daugherty. "This was reinforced at the (League's) Convention last year by the speaker who talked about the need for credit unions to talk about the difference of ownership. At an NCUA Chairman Matz listening session last summer one of the Regional Examiners hit that same theme."

Daugherty added the chapter's ad also supports data shown in the the CUNA Environmental Scan. See a copy of the ad here.

Follow up items from 2012 Chapter Leaders Conference
Thanks again to the Chapter Officials who were able to join us for the 2012 Chapter Leaders Conference. Special thanks to the Chicago Metro Chapter for all of its hard work in making this year's conference an "Oscar winning performance". Nearly 90 leaders from 17 of the Illinois Credit Union League’s (ICUL) 24 chapters were in attendance.

As a follow-up, we wanted to make available additional information and resources for everyone’s benefit. These include:

Written recaps from the day two brainstorming roundtables;
Powerpoint presentations paying homage to historical chapter leaders and recipients of this year’s "Oscars" shown at the opening evening event;
Information about, and how to use ICUL's Chapter Leaders listserv (Please note a separate e-mail will be sent to you via the listserv to confirm you are on it);
Photos from the event; and
The Chapter Leaders Handbook that was recently updated on the League’s Web site.
