News & Notes

GCS kicks off "East Side Pride".  GCS and Y98 have teamed up to celebrate the good things Illinois listeners have been doing in the community. The campaign is called "East Side Pride".  GCS and the radio station are looking for stories from individuals and organizations, whether they’re volunteering with a local organization or picking up groceries for an elderly neighbor.  Each month, one entry will be highlighted online and on air.  Listeners can also win the opportunity to have GCS and Y98 help recruit volunteers and be on site to help their project make a difference in the community if they are working on a bigger scale project.

Passings - Illinois movement loses long time leader.  Robert Albrecht, a member of Sherwin Williams Credit Union board of directors for 62 years, passed away January 20.  Even at 95 years old, he was still active with the credit union.  There he chaired the finance committee, provided his help to both the insurance and building committees, and held the offices of president and treasurer.  Robert was also a member of the Illinois Credit Union Hall of Fame, inducted in 1996. For over a quarter of a century, he held the title of Governor of the Southeast (now Chicago Metro) Chapter and won the Illinois Credit Union League Merit Award in 1981. He helped start two credit unions and served as the financial advisor to a third.  Robert wished for his body to be donated to science.  The family was planning a memorial service.

Scott CU donates $6,000 to support MS walks.  Scott Credit Union recently presented a check for $6,000 to representatives from the local MS Society to sponsor fund-raising walks this spring in Millstadt, Edwardsville, O’Fallon and Godfrey.  The local MS walks will be held in O’Fallon on Aug. 16, in Edwardsville and Millstadt on April 21 and in Godfrey on April 22.  The Gateway Area Chapter of the National MS Society is a community of individuals who are committed to achieving a world free of MS. The Chapter helps over 6,600 individuals throughout 90 counties in Missouri and Illinois impacted by MS to move their lives forward.
