CUNA GAC - Hotel, Event Registration Due February 12
The registration and hotel information to participate as part of the Illinois delegation at the 2012 CUNA GAC is now available.
The 2012 GAC will be held Sunday, March 18 - Thursday, March 22. Please note the registration deadline is February 12!
NEW this year: The private Illinois group reception and dinner has been moved to Sunday evening (from Monday evening), to allow interested participants the opportunity to attend the CUNA Foundation's awards banquet (Herb Wegner Memorial banquet) held on Monday night. Two of the keynote presentations will include former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Bob Woodward/Carl Bernstein journalistic duo.
The CUNA GAC is the largest credit union conference and one that all credit unions should attend. Legislative challenges and regulatory burdens continue to be a focus, and an election year brings the opportunity for credit unions to get behind our powerful cause. Together, we can build our future and provide the vision of credit union success for new generations.

ICUL 82nd Annual Convention - Schaumburg

Legislative Day and Governor’s Mansion Reception - Springfield

Please mark your calendar to attend the League’s annual Legislative Day event, which is scheduled for May 9, 2012. The 2012 event will include a trip back to the Governor’s mansion for the reception as well as an earlier shift in the schedule to hopefully provide better opportunities in which you can visit your local state lawmakers. Complete details for the 2012 event will be provided soon via a brochure mailed to all credit unions. Also monitor the League’s Web site where information will be posted as it becomes available.
Hike the Hill – Washington, D.C.
October 3 – 4, 2012
Be sure to make your calendar to join the Illinois delegation in the nation’s capitol October 3 - 4 for the League’s annual Hike the Hill event. At the 2011 event, a delegation of 13 credit union officials from nine credit unions, as well as key League staff met with their Congressmen to discuss vital issues of concern. The meetings were very positive and we will continue interacting with these legislators via candidate interviews and chapter legislative nights in their respective districts prior to the November 2012 election.
ICUF scholarship and grant deadlines
The first review for 2012 scholarships and grants (Community Service, Small Credit Union Development, Marketing and Business Development, and Financial Independence & Revitalization Effort (FIRE)) will take place following the March 31 application deadline. Printable application forms are available on the ICUL Web site. Grant application review deadlines are March 31, July 31, and October 31. Grant seekers are encouraged to complete and return the application form to the Foundation as early in the year as possible since grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications will be reviewed as long as grant funds are available. March 31 is the main scholarship application deadline. FINANCIAL AID AWARENESS MONTH: February
February is Financial Aid Awareness Month and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) has one message in preparing for college expenses: start early! For parents of high school seniors, February is the time to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing the FAFSA early increases chances to secure financial aid for college. For help completing the forms, attend a FAFSA workshop sponsored by ISAC. America Saves Week is a nationwide campaign in which a broad coalition of nonprofit, corporate, and government groups help individuals and families save and build wealth. MONEY SMART WEEK: April 21-28, 2012
The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is hosting Money Smart Weeks (MSW) throughout Illinois during 2012 in the following areas: Greater Chicago, Rockford, Bloomington/Normal, Peoria/Tri-County, Champaign County, Capitol Area (Springfield) and Danville. MSW is designed to help consumers of all ages better manage their finances. Credit unions can host or conduct educational sessions at their offices for members and the public. Credit unions that do not have suitable training facilities can partner with local libraries. If your Credit union is located in an area that is not listed in the areas above, you can still participate in MSW--you can even take a leadership role in bringing this great event to your community. COLLEGE SAVINGS DAY & MONTH: May 29, Month of September
The College Savings Plans Network has been joined by more than 40 states in declaring September "College Savings Month." Section 529 plans make it easy and affordable for the average family to plan ahead for the cost of college attendance and are available in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Across the nation, many activities are held during September to recognize the importance of saving for college.
