CUs hold ground as IGA takes Easter recess.   March 30, 2012 marked the third reading deadline for bills to pass in their chamber of origin.  ICUL has been actively lobbying over 50 bills that could impact credit unions and their business operations.  Of those 50 bills, only seven are actually supported by ICUL.  Full story


CUs on alert on Member Business Lending.    As you probably already know, a Congressional Action Alert issued by the League on March 28, CUNA, leagues and credit unions across the country continue to encourage Congress to enact legislation that increases the credit union member business lending (MBL) cap in order to ensure credit unions can continue to serve their small business-owning members.  Full story.

We hope to see you "Get in the Game!" at ICUL's Annual Convention later this month.  To be held April 26 – 28, 2012, ICUL’s 82nd Annual Convention will tout many changes and highlights.  New this year is a mobile Web site, which is intended to provide more information at the fingertips of attendees via their smartphones, either by scanning what's called a “QR Code” or if a user enters the Annual Convention page URL directly from their smartphone.  Check it out today!  Full story. 

REAL Solutions CUs network at first in-person meeting for 2012. 
The first of two in-person meetings in 2012 for partner credit unions of the Illinois REAL Solutions program met last month.  The main highlighted topics included: Attracting Younger Members, Eco-Friendly Loans, and Comparison of Popular Pre-Paid Cards. Full story 

Legislative Day, Springfield events scheduled, open for registration.  
It will be a busy time for the League and credit unions in early May.  That's because first, ICUL's Legislative Day and Reception will be held on May 9.  This important annual event will be held at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel.  In addition, please also note about additional events taking place that week.  The 2nd annual Springfield-area CUPAC golf outing will be held the day before Legislative Day on Tuesday, May 8.  Lastly, please mark your calendar for now to stay around on May 10, the day after Legislative Day, for a board college being hosted by the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors.  Full story 

CU market share in first mortgage origination exceeds 6.5%. 
America's credit unions are slowly, but steadily, gaining market share in the competitive and changing home loan mortgage market. "Our current percentage* is at the highest level since we began tracking this data dating to the early 1990s," stated Bob McKay, Chief Operating Officer at Baxter Credit Union and Chairman of the Board of the American Credit Union Mortgage Association (ACUMA).
