Legislative Day and Governor’s Mansion Reception - Springfield

Please mark your calendar to attend the League’s annual Legislative Day event, which is scheduled for May 9. The 2012 event will include a trip back to the Governor’s mansion for the reception as well as a shift in the schedule to hopefully provide better opportunities in which you can visit your local state lawmakers. July 16, 2012 (non-game day)
Join us for this new and unique event in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field, which will include free parking, lunch and a 90 minute private "behind the field" guided tour including the team locker rooms, the bleachers, the press box, Cub's dug out, warning track visit accompanied by interesting stories of the 97 year history of Wrigley to captivate even a non-baseball fan! The featured speaker is award winning author and professional Sportscaster, Howard Kellman. Howard hosts "Motivational/Inspirational Sports Moments" on ESPN and has covered the World Series, Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts, Notre Dame sports, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago White Sox to name a few. ICUF annual golf outing - Elk Grove

Reserve Wednesday, July 25 and plan to attend the Illinois Credit Union Foundation’s golf outing. This annual fundraiser offers the opportunity to play in a scramble or individual play format. Participants are guaranteed a day of fun on the links while raising money for the Foundation. Hike the Hill – Washington, D.C.
October 3 – 4, 2012
Be sure to make your calendar to join the Illinois delegation in the nation’s capitol October 3 - 4 for the League’s annual Hike the Hill event. At the 2011 event, a delegation of 13 credit union officials from nine credit unions, as well as key League staff met with their Congressmen to discuss vital issues of concern. The meetings were very positive and we will continue interacting with these legislators via candidate interviews and chapter legislative nights in their respective districts prior to the November 2012 election.
ICUF scholarship and grant deadlines
The first review for 2012 scholarships and grants (Community Service, Small Credit Union Development, Marketing and Business Development, and Financial Independence & Revitalization Effort (FIRE)) will take place following the March 31 application deadline. Printable application forms are available on the ICUL Web site. Remaining grant application review deadlines are July 31, and October 31. Grant seekers are encouraged to complete and return the application form to the Foundation as early in the year as possible since grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications will be reviewed as long as grant funds are available. March 31 was the main scholarship application deadline. Small CU Workshop to be held
NCUA's Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives will be holding a Credit Union Workshop on Wednesday, April 11, 2012. This event will be held from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Doubletree By Hilton in Alsip. For more information and to register, please click here.
MONEY SMART WEEK: April 21-28, 2012
The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is hosting Money Smart Weeks (MSW) throughout Illinois during 2012 in the following areas: Greater Chicago, Rockford, Bloomington/ Normal, Peoria/Tri-County, Champaign County, Capitol Area (Springfield) and Danville. MSW is designed to help consumers of all ages better manage their finances. Credit unions can host or conduct educational sessions at their offices for members and the public. Credit unions that do not have suitable training facilities can partner with local libraries. If your credit union is located in an area that is not listed in the areas above, you can still participate in MSW--you can even take a leadership role in bringing this great event to your community. NASCUS Directors College - Springfield

At the request of several credit unions, the Directors College held by the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) in Chicago last fall is coming to Springfield on May 10, the day after Legislative Day. NASCUS encourages board members, supervisory committee, other volunteers and credit union management to attend this one-day event geared toward enhancing directors’ understanding of the critical statutory, fiduciary and regulatory responsibilities of a director. COLLEGE SAVINGS DAY & MONTH: May 29, Month of September
The College Savings Plans Network has been joined by more than 40 states in declaring September "College Savings Month." Section 529 plans make it easy and affordable for the average family to plan ahead for the cost of college attendance and are available in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Across the nation, many activities are held during September to recognize the importance of saving for college. NCUA "Listening Session"
June 5 - St. Louis
NCUA Board Chairman Debbie Matz will be hosting a "Listening Session," on June 5 at the Hilton St. Louis on 1 South Broadway. Participation is open to the first 150 people who register. Participants will have opportunities to dialog with NCUA Board members, senior NCUA staff, and supervisory examiners from the NCUA Region co-hosting each Listening Session.
