Note on Available Registrants and Transition Period
.Coop converted to a registrar-based system on Tuesday, the 1st of October. This allows .coop registrants to be able to register .coop names through different registrars just as they might a .com or .org name. Registrars set the registration price for .coop domains as is done for all other domain names.

If you are an existing registrant, you will be able to continue maintenance of your current .coop domain names through for a transition period. You can also purchase new names in the same way. However, these names are being purchased from a registrar, so the prices will be those available from that registrar.

Coop registrants will be given a period of time to select a new registrar with the transition period scheduled to last until January 1, 2003. This will give additional registrars time to complete their accreditation and offer their services to .coop registrants.
