Larry Newton Memorial (2006)
The credit union movement lost a dear friend last fall when Larry Newton passed away unexpectedly.
Larry demonstrated his support of the Illinois credit union movement and the League through his service as a member of the League board for 10 years. Larry enjoyed representing his colleagues and friends in the Joseph S. DeRamus Chapter through this role.
During his career, Larry dedicated much of his time to credit unions through working for Midwest Operating Engineers Credit Union, and Archer Heights Credit Union, as well as in small ways like his e-mail address, which included “Mister CU”.
At its November 2005 meeting, the League board posthumously paid special tribute to Larry with the reading of a resolution honoring his distinguished service, which was then presented to his wife, Sallie.
We know that Larry would have enjoyed being with us here today, as he was also a member of the League’s Annual Convention Committee during the entire time he was a director of the board.
Larry’s life clearly exemplified the movement’s “People Helping People” philosophy and was a good friend who will be dearly missed.
