George Wagner Memorial (2005)
George Wagner was a pioneer of New Trier Federal Credit Union. During March of 1958, less than a year after George Wagner started teaching Biology at New Trier High School, the credit union was chartered and George was the 69th person to become a member.
George was a board member for 20 years, from 1985 until 2004. He was chairman of the board for 8 of those years and chairman of the supervisory committee for 10 years. George played an instrumental role in the relocation of the credit union from within the school to a new building of its own.
He was passionate about the facility and was in charge of the Building & Grounds -- a job he loved and took to heart. A job where he used his own hands to make many improvements including siding the back of the building, installing shelves, and tiling the entry floor.
George was known as a kind, dedicated person who never expected anything in return for his volunteer service to the credit union.
The award, which was made possible by a generous gift from New Trier Federal Credit Union, was announced at the credit union’s annual meeting last month. Sadly, George died the next day. He will be dearly missed by his credit union family.
