ICU Foundation Perpetual Awards
Dan Plauda Tribute (2005/2014)
Shortly after Dan Plauda was hired as the first General Counsel for the Illinois Credit Union League one of his first assignments was to create a foundation to help credit unions in need of financial assistance to train staff and board members. In 1978, the Illinois Credit Union Foundation was born.
As the Foundation grew and credit union needs became more complex, grants were added to help small credit unions remain competitive, particularly in the area of technology. Grants funds can be used to purchase computer equipment, office supplies, and marketing materials. Grants have been expanded to cover data processing needs and the development and implementation of new products and services.
The ICU Foundation had raised more than $4.5 million dollars from its inception through the end of 2013. The Foundation has disbursed more than $3.5 million in scholarships and grants.
This Tribute Award is a fitting way to honor the person who found a way to channel the cooperative spirit of credit unions in a manner that they could help each other and who has served the credit unions of Illinois for more than 37 years.
Nearly 70 individuals, credit unions, chapters and related organizations have donated in excess of $16,000 to the ICU Foundation to establish the Daniel D. Plauda Perpetual Tribute Award.
