Cornelius J. O’Mahoney Tribute (2013)
Con joined the Illinois Credit Union League in 1976 as a field consultant serving northwest Illinois. He came to the League after serving as Treasurer of Ipsen Credit Union. Later that year, Con moved to the Research & Information Department, which later became the Legal & Technical Department where he worked as a Senior Compliance Analyst.
Con soon became the "go to" guy for answering policy, regulatory, compliance, and procedural questions from credit union people around the state. He has provided invaluable advice throughout his career not only to credit unions, but also to CUNA, NCUA and the DFI on behalf of the Illinois Credit Union League. His legacy to the credit union movement in Illinois rests in his indepth analyses, reviews, and clarification of rules and regulations from A to Z that will live on through his contributions to Comment Letters, Legislative Alerts and the Information Manual.
Con has also served as the "unofficial" historian of credit union and League related topics, and has shared that information and credit union related "stories" and facts at Chapter meetings, League annual conventions and credit union annual meetings.
His indepth knowledge of all things credit union related made Con a highly regarded and respected League staff member. Con retired from the League in 2012 after more than 36 years of dedicated service.
