Betty Belker Tribute (2004)
Betty Belker began her credit union career in 1956 with Gardner Denver Employees Credit Union, now known as United Community Credit Union in Quincy.
Betty began as Treasurer and held several positions until she retired in 1992 after 36 years of dedicated service. Under her leadership, the credit union expanded its field of membership, and opened a new permanent facility and branch office.
During her career, Betty has also served on the Quincy Chapter’s board as Secretary, Legislative Representative and a member of the audit committee. In addition, she also served on the Illinois Credit Union League’s board for 10 years.
Today, Betty still works part-time at the credit union and along with her husband George, attends most chapter meetings. This part-time tenure, combined with her 36 years of full-time service, adds up to nearly 50 years in the credit union movement. As a fitting tribute to her many years of dedicated service, Betty was also inducted into the Illinois Credit Union Hall of Fame in 1997.
Betty’s award was made possible by contributions from United Community Credit Union and the Quincy Chapter of Credit Unions.
