Education Eagle Award Winner Educational Sessions

Hough Chapter hosted three educational sessions in 2000. February 16 was titled "Protecting Yourself from Robbery and Fraud." Members of the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department discussed fraud and forgery, gave a robbery demonstration, discussed how to identify a suspect following a robbery, and talked about personal safety. Seventh people attended.

May 16 was titled "Stress Management." An employee relations specialist discussed the signs of stress and how to avoid stress and take control of your life. She demonstrated several stress relief tools and suggested having toys to play with both at home and work to relieve stress. Thirty-six people attended.

October 18 was titled "Controlling Check Fraud." A Risk Management Specialist from CUNA Mutual talked about the different types of fraud and how to identify the problem. An Account Executive with Clarke American described the safety features built into a check and how to identify a check that has been altered or chemically washed. Finally, a representative from the State’s Attorney’s office spoke on what happens to a case once it is escalated through the system. Sixty-two people attended.

Separate morning and afternoon sessions are held to give more employees an opportunity to attend, and other chapters were invited. A buffet lunch is served between the sessions. This gives employees an opportunity to network with other credit unions. The evaluation form asks for suggestions for future topics to ensure that future sessions meet the needs of those attending.
